Owl Watcher’s Notebook with Eastern Screech Owl / Mark Catesby
This item would make a great gift for a bird watcher, owl lover, or could serve as the record book for a nature reserve. In the background are texts representing the sounds made by different owl species. The image comes from a high resolution scan of the original in our collection. This circa 1750 engraving by Johann Michael Seligman was based on the earlier original plates from Mark Catesby’s “Natural History of Carolina, Florida and Islands.” Catesby’s work was the first published account of the wildlife of North America.
